| There is a TV show that has recently captured my heart. It has
all the drama, personality, artistic style and comedy that I crave in a
visual stimulant. And, as it draws me into its cinematic
storylines, I sense a deeper, more spiritual experience dawning upon
me. What is this show, you ask?
I introduce you to "Flip that House." Yes, this TLC nugget is a
true winner. The concept is quite interesting. It
chronicles certain risk-taking individuals, called "house flippers,"
who search high and low in hot real estate markets for run-down,
forgotten homes and buys them for the purpose of renovating them and
selling them quickly for a nice, tasty profit. Some are
first-timers, others are seasoned veterans.
What I like most about the show is seeing what the houses are at the
beginning and then seeing what they become in the end. They start
out old, dirty, abandoned and in need of serious upgrades. They
end up looking new, clean and modern after their much-needed
facelift. Sometimes, the homes are completely knocked down and
torn up before being renovated. Then, at the end, the home that
no one wanted gets put on the market for someone to claim as their own
and put it back to use. In a sense, these "house flippers" grant
new life to these once "dead" homes.
Why does this show appeal to me so much? I think it's the same
reason why it probably appeals to a lot of viewers across the
country. It's a real-life picture of redemption, transformation
and renovation. It's the ultimate feel good story of something
discarded and forgotten being changed into something beautiful.
We all like these stories, they point us beyond the guise of first
impressions to a hope for a better, more promising future.
Nothing is beyond salvage. What a great hope.
At this point in the story, I hear an old, famous hymn ringing through my ears...it goes something like this:
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
that saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now am found
was blind, but now I see.
Could it be that we
are witnesses to a far greater renovation in our world? A
renovation of the human heart? A renovation which takes evil and
transforms it to good, that which was broken and made whole
again...hope restored to hopelessness. If you look closely, you
will see the fingerprints of One who is the ultimate designer and
architect. But, He is not in the home business.
His workshop is humanity.

| I turned in my last assignments today....thus officially completing my
seminary career. 5 years, 120 credit hours later, I have
experienced God's abundant grace in sustaining me through this chapter
in my life...much has been learned, much has been un-learned, the inner
journey was quite a ride...but in the end, I love my Savior deeper,
know myself clearer and pursue life freer
onward we must all go

| Thanks to the United crew for helping see the greatness of God and call
me to live brave for the cause of Christ in this world. Thanks
for showing me that the brave generation see a different world, speak a
different language, and resonate a different sound. May I live a
life which speaks love, grace, hope and truth to the least and the
lost, to the hurting and the broken, to the downcast and the abandoned,
to the widows and the orphans...may the love of Jesus revolutionize
this world.
Would you break free, would you break free
Get up and dance in His love
